Referral Information

Dietitians at ChildD do not need a referral to see patients but it can assist in assessment of clinical history. ChildD dietitians send and receive correspondence via Medical Objects.

Patients with private health insurance can claim using their Health Insurance Company. Patients with a chronic disease can claim from Medicare with a Chronic Disease Management plan or Team Care Arrangements referral. Patients can claim up to $53.80 for up to 5 Allied Health services per calendar year. Delivered in partnership with Dietitians Australia, our National Paediatric Dietetic Training Course aims to help qualified Health Professionals understand dietetic management in children.

National Paediatric Dietetic Training Course

The first of its kind in Australia, this unique program has been designed to educate health professionals in the basics and complexities of dietetic management in children.

Gaining national and international recognition as the most relevant and practical program available, the course aims to give health professionals the skills to confidently care for paediatric patients in everyday practice.

The Program Is Open to:

  • Qualified Dietitians
  • Student Dietitians
  • Health professionals (including community midwives, nurses, and allied health)
  • GPs and other medical officers with a special interest in paediatrics

Led by Our Experienced Education Team, the Course Is Delivered in Three Independent, Progressive Modules:

Module 1

Paediatric Nutrition for Life

  • Growth, nutrition assessment, and calculating energy requirements for infants and children
  • Infant feeding – breastfeeding and introduction to solids
  • Obesity management
  • Faltering growth

Module 1 is open to all Health Professionals. Upon completing Module 1, you will receive a Certificate of Attendance.

This course is eligible for CPD hours for your appropriate profession.

Module 2

Paediatric Nutrition for Disease

  • Food allergy and other adverse reactions to food
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Malnutrition assessment, screening, and refeeding syndrome
  • Nutrition support, enteral feeding, and specialised formulas

Module 2 is open to qualified Dietitians and Medical Doctors.

Upon completing Module 2, you will receive a Professional Certificate.

This course is eligible for CPD hours for your appropriate profession.

Module 3

Introduction to Advanced Paediatric Nutrition Areas

  • The Ketogenic diet
  • Critical care
  • Metabolic medicine
  • Parenteral nutrition
  • Neonatal nutrition
  • Management of GI disorders

Module 3 is open to qualified Dietitians and medical doctors specialising in Paediatrics.

Upon completing Module 2, you will receive a Professional Certificate.

This course is eligible for CPD hours for your appropriate profession.

Current COVID requirements mean that all modules are currently run via Zoom— ChildD Education Team endeavour to make these modules as interactive and group-focused as possible despite the remote learning.

Ayala Rogany

Ayala Rogany has been a clinical paediatric dietitian for over 12 years, and is currently the Clinical Leader of Paediatric Obesity services in Queensland. Ayala is an Accredited Practising Dietitian, and throughout her professional career has provided upskilling, mentoring and education for student and new graduate dietitians, including university lectures to a number of dietetics courses within South East Queensland in the areas of paediatric nutrition and leadership.

Julia Fox

Julia Fox has been a clinical paediatric dietitian for over 12 years and is currently the Clinical Leader of Dietetic Services for Surgical and Gastroenterology services at a large tertiary hospital in Queensland. Julia is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and in addition to her hospital work runs a small private dietetic practice on Brisbane’s Northside.

Catherine Bonifant

Catherine Bonifant has been a clinical paediatric dietitian for over 15 years, and in addition to private consultant work, is currently the Clinical Leader of Dietetic Services for Medical services at a large tertiary hospital in Queensland. Catherine is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and an active member of the Dietitians Association of Australia.

The team at ChildD are all Accredited Practising Dietitians (APDs) and together have over 70 years of experience working in health. We work with children and families to achieve sustainable results. Our referrals come from a broad-health base, including Paediatricians, Cardiologists, Endocrinologists, Neonatologists, Behavioural Specialists, GPs, Speech Therapists, and Occupational Therapists.

ChildD is committed to ongoing professional education to ensure we offer up-to-date, evidence-based practice. We are active members of a variety of different health organisations, and have over 60 publications and numerous book chapters to our name.
